Open Country, Hard Wind

Celina homeowners usually find us after weather. Late on May 25, 2024, the National Weather Service tracked an EF1 tornado with winds up to 95 mph through Celina and the Weston area; it damaged trees, metal buildings and telephone poles along its path, and a satellite tornado near Prairie Meadow Drive was rated high-end EF3. That night is a reminder of what open prairie means for trees here: there is little to slow the wind, and a young tree or an old fence-row hackberry takes the full force. Our Tree Service work in Celina covers both the cleanup after storms and the pruning that helps trees ride the next one out.

A small town that became a city fast

The first postmaster, John T. Mulkey, named Celina after his hometown in Tennessee, and in 1902 the town moved about a mile north to meet the railroad. For most of the next century it stayed small: 1,861 residents in 2000. Then the north Dallas growth wave arrived. The 2020 census counted 16,739 people, and the 2025 estimate is 64,427. The result is a mix of property you do not see in older suburbs. Brand-new homes with saplings sit next to old farmsteads with pecans, bois d'arc and hackberry lines planted generations ago.

How that changes the work

On new lots, the job is training: setting a strong central leader, removing narrow forks before they become weak unions and keeping limbs off the roof. Young trees with good structure bend in wind; poorly formed ones split.

On older acreage, the job is assessment and reduction. Old fence-line trees often have decay at past wounds, dead tops and heavy limbs over barns or drives. Some are worth saving with careful pruning. Others are safer coming down in sections before they fail.

Near construction, trees left standing during land development often lose roots to grading and trenching. Decline can take three to five years to show. If a big tree near new construction is thinning at the top, have it looked at.

Celina Questions

A tree came through my fence in a storm. What should I do first?

Make sure no power line is involved, take photos for your insurer, and keep pets in until the fence is closed. Then call us. We can usually remove the tree from the fence line first so the yard can be secured, then handle the rest.

Our new neighborhood has almost no big trees. Why do we need a tree company?

Because the young trees you have will be the shade on your street in twenty years. Pruning them while they are small sets the structure, and that is far cheaper than repairing a split tree later.

A big tree near our new house is thinning at the top. Is it related to construction?

It may be. Grading, trenching for utilities and heavy equipment over the root zone can kill a large share of a tree's feeding roots, and the decline often shows a few years later. We can look at the crown, the root zone and the trunk and tell you whether pruning and time are likely to help or whether removal is the safer plan.

Do you work on rural acreage around Celina?

Yes. We handle fence-row trees, dead trees near barns and drives, and clearing around homesites. Larger properties get a walk-through so we can price each area separately.
