Tree Work in a Compact Town

Addison is small and densely built, and that changes how Tree Service is done here. The town covers about 4.36 square miles, and Addison Airport takes up roughly one-eighth of it. The rest holds offices, restaurants, apartments, townhomes and single-family streets, with 10,591 housing units counted in 2020. Half of Addison's 9,533 households are single-person households. A lot of the trees we are asked about stand in small courtyards, narrow side yards, HOA common areas and along private drives, often within a few feet of a wall or a neighbor's roof.

What tight sites need

  • Planning the drop zone. On a small lot there is rarely room to fell a tree whole. Limbs and trunk sections are cut and lowered with ropes, and sometimes a crane is the safest option for a large tree with no clear space around it.
  • Protecting hardscape. Courtyards, pavers, patios and pools take damage easily. We lay down protection where wood will land and plan the carry-out path.
  • Talking to the HOA. Many townhome communities control trees in common areas. If the tree is not clearly yours, we will help you sort that out before work starts.
  • Clearance over roofs. Shared walls mean one tree can touch several units. Pruning back from rooflines and gutters is one of our most common Addison tasks.

Parks and older trees

The town has 118 acres of parkland; its first town park opened in 1978, and Addison Circle Park was built in the early 2000s. Some single-family streets near the older parts of town have trees that have been growing since the 1970s and 1980s, which is old enough for problems like decay at past cuts, dead limbs high in the crown and roots that have outgrown a small bed. Those trees can often be kept with good pruning. When they cannot, we explain why.

Owners who are not on site

With so many renters and single-person households, we often deal with owners or property managers who are not living at the address. We can send photos of each tree and a written, itemized estimate, then coordinate access with residents or the HOA.

Disposal

Every Addison job includes hauling and chipping unless you ask to keep the wood. On small sites, leaving brush at the curb is often not practical or allowed, so cleanup is part of the price from the start.

Choosing trees that fit

When a tree has outgrown a small space, the best long-term fix is often to replace it with something sized for the spot. A large shade species planted three feet from a townhome wall will always be fighting the building. Smaller native trees such as Texas redbud, Mexican plum or possumhaw holly fit courtyards and narrow beds far better. If you are replanting after a removal, we can talk through what will still be in proportion with the space in twenty years.

Addison Questions

The tree is in our townhome common area. Can I hire you directly?

If the HOA owns or maintains the common area, it usually has to approve or order the work. We can give the board a written estimate and a description of the tree's condition to help that decision.

How do you remove a tree from a courtyard with no access?

In pieces. Limbs and trunk sections are cut, lowered on ropes and carried out by hand. For very large trees with no clear space, a crane is sometimes the safest way to lift wood out over the building.

Leaves from a neighbor's tree fill my gutters every fall. What can I do?

Start with a conversation with the neighbor, and with the HOA if the tree is in a shared area. Cutting only one side of a tree can leave it lopsided and stressed, so it often works out better for both owners to share one balanced pruning job that lifts the canopy off both roofs. We can quote it either way.

Can you just trim the side touching my roof?

Yes. Clearance pruning back from roofs and walls is common here. We cut back to proper side branches so the tree stays balanced and does not throw out a flush of weak sprouts.
